Sains Hall and our facilities

Sains Hall School of Equitation is based just outside Great Totham in Maldon, Essex. We were founded by Rachel and James Howie in 2022. We are a friendly, family-run riding school. 

At Sains Hall we have a beautiful menage but also we have access to some fantastic hacking on tracks and paths.

Rachel is highly qualified in coaching riding; her goal is to ensure all pupils learn to ride and train the horses and ponies with kindness and correct equitation. 

Rachel Howie does the majority of the teaching and training. Rachel grew up at her family’s BHS riding school in Suffolk training all the horses and ponies you now ride at Sains Hall. She has been teaching all her adult life with her mothers riding school, Cambridge, Newmarket, and London, mixed with a busy calendar of eventing and show jumping.

After having two babies Rachel’s true passion is now in dressage and trains passionately with her Grand Prix trainer Tina working and competing her horse Valiant.
